This is the resident’s Atlantic Avenue, not the visitor’s: what the street costs you in parking and closures when you live on it. Restaurants, things to do and the GreenMarket as an outing are our sister guide’s job; one-line resident-reality mentions of each belong here.
The street itself
- Atlantic Avenue was platted in 1895, running from the Intracoastal Waterway to the Atlantic Ocean, according to the City's history pages. City of Delray Beach: About Delray Beach
- USA TODAY named Atlantic Avenue one of America's 10 Great Shopping Streets in 2017, according to the City's About page. City of Delray Beach: About Delray Beach
- The City describes Delray Beach as "a charming, vibrant city of dynamic and diverse communities with a bright future" whose mission is to "proudly celebrate our heritage and provide a welcoming, healthy hometown for residents and visitors." City of Delray Beach: About Delray Beach
Parking when you live on the Avenue
The Delray Beach Downtown Development Authority’s parking guide puts the Avenue itself at $4 an hour, side streets near it at $3, lots at $2 and garages at $1.50. Two resident tools change that math: the City Resident Downtown Parking Permit at $12 a year for designated garages, lots and side streets, and the 50-cents-an-hour resident discount on ParkMobile metered parking. Downtown’s first 20 minutes are free, and the Old School Square garage’s published rate is $1.50 an hour.
- Per the Downtown Delray Beach (DDA) parking guide: Atlantic Avenue $4/hour, side streets near Atlantic Avenue $3/hour, parking lots near Atlantic Avenue $2/hour, parking garages $1.50/hour; free parking is available on side streets and lots more than a block from Atlantic Avenue. (DDA page, not a City of Delray Beach page – see notes.) Downtown Delray Beach (DDA): Parking
- The City Resident Downtown Parking Permit applies to anyone who resides in the City of Delray Beach city limits; each permit costs $12 per year, valid Oct. 1 – Sept. 30, and is prorated to $6 if purchased after April 1. Only two permits are allowed per housing unit, vehicle registration must be provided for each vehicle, and price is per permit. City of Delray Beach: City Resident Downtown Parking
- The City Resident Downtown Parking Permit is valid only in designated garages, surface lots and side-streets in Downtown Delray (this does not include the beach), and allows free parking seven days a week in those designated areas. It is not valid on Atlantic Ave, at the beach, or east of the intracoastal, and does not guarantee a parking space. City of Delray Beach: City Resident Downtown Parking
- Delray Beach residents are eligible for a 50 cent per hour discount on metered on-street parking when using the ParkMobile App; residents must go to the Parking Office in person with vehicle registration and ID, there is no additional fee, and the car must be registered within the Delray Beach city limits. City of Delray Beach: Parking Information
- In the Downtown location the first 20 minutes of parking is free: you can park for up to 20 minutes using ParkMobile (still paying the $0.35 transaction fee), or enter your license plate at the nearest downtown meter to activate the 20 minutes without the app. City of Delray Beach: Pay For Parking
- The Old School Square parking garage at 95 NE 1st Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33444 (category: Public Parking Garages) charges a parking fee of $1.50 an hour with free EV chargers available, per the City's Facility Directory. City of Delray Beach Facility Directory: Old School Square Parking Garage
The full permit menu – the $90 downtown-resident tier for buildings without parking, beach permits, the employee pilot – is on our resident parking page.
The nights the street closes
Living on the Avenue means the festivals come to you. The 2026 event was parade-only – the City stated "We are excited to present the parade this year. No Festival this year." City of Delray Beach – St. Patrick's Day Parade

Swinton Avenue) on Saturday, October 24, 2026, for its 31st winter season, running every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through May 22, 2027.
